You can eat well locally and wander endlessly between all the stalls, but for really nice souvenirs you better go to the Mercado Nacional de Artesanías.

One of the most serene spots in San José is the Spirogyra Butterfly Garden. This garden full of tropical and special butterflies is located in the last real piece of nature in the city, and aims to teach people about butterflies and their role in nature. A wonderful place to walk around, view butterflies and enjoy peace and nature.
